BCP-1: Another Cell Line You Guys Ought To know Or Else...

The HeLa cell line is like the lead singer of a band, everyone knows them (all the ladies love them). But there are other cell lines people may not be familiar with, just like the other members of the band (eg. Bass Players).

BCP-1 is the bass player of cell lines. Researchers from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University were able to establish a BCP-1 Cell line from peripheral blood and characterized its growth in Nod/SCID mice. BCP-1 is a continuous cell line that contains a Kaposi Sarcoma Associated Herpes Virus Sequence (KSAHV+) as well as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV+) sequence at low levels, obtained from a 52 year old male, whom contracted HIV and was obtained from a primary effusion lymphoma (PEL). They injected the BCP-1to a nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficiency disease (Nod/SCID) mice, and they discovered formation of tumors with PEL qualities, indicating that it can be established. Now You guys know another cell line thanks to me.

The Picture below, shows BCP-1 in mouse kidney cells (A), in retroperitoneal fat (B), and in the thymus (C).

You guys can view how they were able to establish the BCP-1 by clicking on the link below:
