I know!! I work at a restaraunt on the weekends, and I have told people about the research I am interested in getting involved in, and they always ask me about the contoversial subject of using embryos.
I usually just tell them that we are starting to get away from using embryonic stem cells and starting to open the doors to induced pluripotent stem cells. This could lead to personalized treatment, and so much more. They are usually amazed to hear this.
I like media for its ability to reach the masses, but its also subject to misleading information. Its up to the reseachers and future doctors to spread the appropriate word about stem cell research today. This is the only way we would see more advocates for this type of research.
people need to know more about the benefits of iPS treatments, but its true that the media always talks about embryonic stem cells
