PBS Interview with the author

Here is an interview from PBS with the author of the book Rebecca Skloot. Definitely interesting to see her views on the subject behind research ethics and stem cell usage.

  1. She brings up such a good point about if the family were to be compensated for the use of the cells, it would then set a precedence and therefore what about all the other cells that have been used for research with little concent giving my the unknowing donors?! Interesting to think about.

  2. I'm sure it would end up being resolved to the extent of a lawsuit where if you prove yourself or a family member being subject to forced removal of cells without consent then compensation of some set amount could be claimed. It would be difficult to prove less well known cases and the majority of the families probably never even learned that their loved ones cells had been taken. Even so after a successful trial some lawyer would I'm sure take the responsibility of a commercial asking if you had been wronged in this way and the number to call.
